Record Store Day – The Full List and Our Picks for the 2018 Spanish Edition

The Record Store Day 2018 is around the corner and Spain is ready to celebrate it with its own edition on April, 21st.

Just as for the past editions, there will be a series of nation-exclusive releases. Additionally, many record stores will be hosting live acts and shows during the day. You can read the full program here.

We have already covered the full list and our picks for the Record Store UK 2018, and now we are selecting 5 records from the nation-exclusive releases that we believe you cannot miss.

12TWELVE – SPERITISMO (LP REISSUE, BRUNZIT RECORDS)

First released on BOA Records in 2003, ‘Speritismo’ is the third work from the Barcelona-based band. The album is a wonderful work of post-rock, full of dense atmospheres, noise glimpses, and jazzy vibes. It was recorded by Steve Albini, members of Shellac and known for acting as a producer for Nirvana, Pixies, and so on.

ELVIS PRESLEY & THE BLUE MOON BOYS – SHAKE RATTLE / BLUE MOON (7’’, SLEAZY RECORDS)

The Malaga based label specialized in rock’n’roll, rockabilly, and other related 50s music genres delivers this 7’’ with two songs recorded by Elvis and the Blue Moon Boys in 1955 but that were never released before in their form. Elvis would record ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ in the form we used to know it one year later, while Fool, Fool, Fool, on the B Side, is a cover of the song the band The Clovers.

Various Artists – ¡DESAFINANDO! (LP, ADARCE RECORDS)

This is easily our favorite release for this edition of the Record Store Day Spain. Bossa Nova reached Europe in the early 60s and it didn’t take long before spanish artists started to include bossa nova rhythms in their music. Adarce Records people have carefully dug the catalog of three labels: Belter, Discophon, and Olympo to deliver us this wonderful selection of bossa nova music sung in spanish. All the songs on this compilation were recorded during the 60s and the 70s and were never released on vinyl. Luckily, Adarce’s own Jordi Llansamà was the guest of one of our beloved Dublab.es radio shows, and he played a few tracks from this release.

EL DROGAS – UN DÍA NADA MÁS (HÉROES) / NO DAS PENA (7’’, WARNER)

Enrique Villarreal Armendáriz, also known as El Drogas, former bass player in Barricada, one of the most iconic Spanish rock bands, recorded his own version of ‘Heroes’ by David Bowie, what else shall we say?

CALYPSO – ORIGINAL VOL.1 (LP REISSUE, DAILY RECORDS / BCORE)

Catalan Dr. Calypso are without any doubt some of the most respected Spanish ska-reggae bands. Their ‘Original Vol.1’ was first released in 1993 on CD and Cassette only. People at Daily Records / BCore are doing every ska-reggae lover a favor by releasing this on vinyl. Our favorite track is Rulete Russa, sang in Catalan and with chords that remind us of Tainted Love.
