WAX HUNTER VINYL WOMAN

This time is turn for a young lady Uliana Musikhina that is really active in Social Media and goes by the alias of  VINYLWOMAN. You can fin her hanging out in Instagram posting amazing records mainly related with Early Indie Pop gems.

HOW DO YOU BECAME RECORD COLLECTOR?

I don’t really know the nature of it. Maybe that’s some kind of child-memories when my parents were putting a fairy-tale on vinyl and I was there in the middle of the big room, imagining all of the things I just heard. That was wonderful. My parents were not collecting vinyl, we just had few records and that was pretty it.

I started being curious about vinyl when I was 26. Sometimes I was going to the stores just to see what’s there. I had no turntable and was purely a digital-music person. At some point it became kind of a ritual, if I was passing by a record store I was getting in and checking if they have Is This It of The Strokes. So when I turned 27, on my birthday I got a turntable and that “Is this It” record. This is how it started.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC GENRE IN MUSIC? ANY FAVORITE LABEL?

I love indie-rock. And if we talk about labels, I would go for Cult Records, RCA and Domino.

WHICH LP COVER OF YOUR COLLECTION DO YOU LIKE THE MOST?

Oh, it’s so hard to choose. I love the minimal things like AM and Suck it and see – Arctic Monkeys. Also I love that amazing dog from AHJ EP – Albert Hammond Jr.

WHAT´S THE RAREST ALBUM IN YOUR COLLECTION?

Since I’m into pretty contemporary music (from 2000’s onwards), I’m not sure the original pressings of my favourite records are considered rare. I had pretty hard time getting “Phrases for the Young”, so I really happy of having it. Also, some time ago I took part in a vinyl giveaway and won a copy of White Album of The Beatles from 1968. It’s a real treasure!

WHERE IS LOCATED YOUR VINYL SET UP IN YOUR HOUSE? WHICH ELEMENTS DOES IT HAVE?

It’s in the living room, in front of the couch. My setup is pretty simple. I consider myself a very beginner. I have an Auna turntable, Yamaha amp and a couple of speakers. The records are stored in an ikea kallax. I have some plants around, so it’s my little sanctuary haha.

IF YOUR HOUSE IS BURNING AND YOU COULD SAVE ONLY ONE RECORD OF YOUR COLLECTION, WHICH ONE WILL BE?

Oh my God, I don’t have huge vinyl collection, I hope to be able to take them all haha. But if we are talking about just one, I`ll take my very first record – Is this It from the Strokes. It’s where it all started, it’s a gift from the wonderful person that means a lot to me and it’s the first record of my favourite band. I think it makes sense.

IF YOU WOULD HAVE A RECORD STORE, WHAT WILL BE THE NAME?

The name… I think I would take one from the song. Maybe 505? Or Electricityscape? Nintendo Blood fits really well too. Regarding the records, I’m sure there would be everything indie and rock related.

HOW IS THE VINYL PURCHASE PROCESS?

I love to go to record stores. I love to go for trips and bring myself a record as a souvenir. I love vinyl fairs. Discogs and amazon are my options too. Sometimes I’m looking for something particular, sometimes it’s just going there and see with what life is going to surprise you today.
